The Most Card Submissions So Far
As I write this, I'm sharing my office with three very large boxes that contain over 2,000 cards! Thanks to all your efforts, these cards will soon be in the hands of the families of the patients at Cook Children's Medical Center. Below are some wonderful samples of cards you sent (it's incredibly difficult to choose just two)!
I am also very excited to share the following message with you. It comes from the activities director of the Arcadia Nursing Home, our designated recipient from the May issue: "To all the wonderful people who gave of their hearts and minds in designing the beautiful array of cards ... Bravo! Kudos! Thanks! Gracias! You should be very proud of your endeavors. The residents smiled from ear to ear at the creativity."
Your Next Theme is ...
Crazy for Color
Here's a reminder of how Readers Reach Out works: Look for this column in each issue of CardMaker to see an upcoming card theme, along with our designated recipient. Using the theme as a guideline, create as many cards as you'd like and mail them to the address below. Before shipping the cards to our designated organization, we will choose a few submissions that illustrate a range of card-making techniques and styles. These sample cards will be published in a future issue. One of them could be yours!
Your cards will be donated to: Snail Mail For Seniors, an organization that sends cards and kids' artwork to people in nursing and assisted-living homes. The group focuses on getting cards to seniors who receive little, if any, mail or visitors. You can read more about this caring organization on its Web site: www.snailmailforseniors.com
Your Deadline: Cards must be received by
November 14, 2008.
General Guidelines: This organization mainly needs generic cards that are suitable for any occasion or time of year. They will happily accept Christmas or New Year's cards, as well as winter-themed cards to send in the months following the holidays. Feel free to include a short note or sentiment on the inside, along with your signature, if you wish. Keep the sentiments cheerful, humorous, or warm, such as "sending a hug" or "thinking of you," and refrain from using "get well." Cards made by children are also very welcome!
Your Suggestions Are Very Welcome. We would like this program to benefit people all across the country. If you know of an organization that would welcome handcrafted cards for its patients or residents, please send a note to: readerconnect@yahoo.com. Think about group facilities, such as local children's hospitals, nursing homes, cancer treatment facilities and women's shelters.
Sincere thanks to all of you for your hard work and beautiful cards!
